QUANTUM HEART: Learn to Listen and Live in the NOW

by Andreea Vandendriessche

How much of our day do we spend living and reliving something that is not happening right NOW? We return
to a conversation from the past or imagine something that might happen in the future. The little voice inside
our head tells us a story, and we play it over and over and over again. Meanwhile, we give very little attention
to what is happening with us NOW.

Meditation is the first step towards quieting that mental voice. This means literally putting it on mute. The
thoughts may still be there, but you should not follow them. Quantum Heart Meditation is a practice I use to
connect with my spirit through gratitude and return my awareness to the present.

You cannot change what has already happened. You can take steps towards the future, but every step has to
begin in the NOW.

The mind demands, the heart waits
In my opinion, the mind and the heart are two of the strongest gifts we have been given. When we are young,
so much emphasis is placed on learning what we can explain, analyse and prove. We are often given less space
to explore our emotions, intuition and spiritual awareness.

Over time, we learn to doubt our inner knowing and look outside ourselves for answers. In my spiritual understanding, the heart offers guidance, freedom and wisdom. Its language is calm, subtle and patient. The mental voice can be loud and insistent. It analyses, narrates, worries, reacts, and can convince you
that urgency equals importance.

The mind demands to be heard. The heart waits quietly for you to notice. Take some time and listen to the
quiet voice of your heart.

The heart also produces measurable electromagnetic activity. HeartMath’s article, The Resonant Heart,
describes its electrical field as approximately 60 times greater in amplitude than the brain’s and its magnetic
field as approximately 5,000 times stronger.

In my teaching, Quantum Heart describes an energetic connection between body, mind, spirit and what I call
multidimensional awareness. This is my spiritual interpretation, inspired by my interest in quantum physics.

Using the mind in your favour
Learning to work with your mind allows you to use it in your favour, not against you. The thoughts and words
you think and say act as a blueprint that can shape how you experience and respond to your reality. They can
influence what you expect, how you feel and how you act.

An old scenario can become familiar through repetition, even if it brings you nothing good. Replaying it in your
mind can bring an emotional response or tension within the body, although it is not happening NOW. You can
also use your imagination to practise a different response and follow it with action.

There is a saying, often attributed to Frank Outlaw, that I like very much:

“Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

I believe this expresses the power of the mind through the way we live. You can begin to become the observer
of your life instead of the prisoner of old stories.

Returning through gratitude
As you learn to observe your thoughts without identifying with them, meditation creates space for awareness
of the NOW. You do not need to fill that space with a new story. You can make room for gratitude for what you
already have, while allowing your feelings to be present.

You can also begin with a gratitude exercise, bringing your attention to what you appreciate in your own life.

For example, there are many things I am grateful for: my child, someone I love, my environment. The sun
makes me happy. I notice the nature around me, the animals behind my home, the fresh air.

I am grateful for waking up full of energy, with a positive vibration, and feeling in perfect health. This has been
my experience for many years now and is part of my personal story.

Giving these things my attention allows me to feel gratitude and notice what is already here.

Take a moment to reflect: What am I grateful for right NOW? How do I express that gratitude today? Perhaps
by thanking someone or giving your surroundings a moment of attention.

To explore the practice, I invite you to listen to my free guided Quantum Heart meditation, offered through La
Mue.
