Healing What Hertz

by Richard H. Blankenship

Everyday, we find ourselves bombarded by frequencies. As the greater majority of these are either above or below our range of hearing, we never give a thought to this matter. Even so, we have felt the effects of these undetected assailants, and wondered why we are feeling a certain way when no other explanation can be found. In the case of these frequencies, we find that what we don’t know can indeed hurt us. Thankfully, many people, including myself, are more focused on the way we can use these inaudible sounds to heal, rather than hurt.

xxxFirst, let’s take a look at the range of possibilities, or should I say, opportunities. The range of human hearing is approximately twenty hertz to twenty thousand hertz. Any sound below that range is referred to as infrasound, and anything above it is called ultrasound.[1] Infrasound is used in a variety of ways. Some animals can communicate in this range, and we can use it for seismic monitoring. With humans, it can impact moods and have other physiological effects.[2] Ultrasound, which extends far beyond our hearing, has even further reaching applications. It’s this range that makes a variety of medical imaging and industrial applications possible.[3]

xxxIn nature’s orchestra, each frequency has its part to play. It’s up to us to decipher what it is, and put it to constructive use. “Constructive” being the operative word, as these frequencies can swiftly go from healing to hurting with very little effort. Much like when medicine is taken, the effectiveness of frequency can be altered by adjusting it above or below the desired range. Especially if done in excess, the effects could be deadly. Another consideration, when seeking a desired affect, is to consider the influence of other frequencies that are occurring simultaneously.

xxxWhile I digress, these are important points to consider before going forward. One of the hindrances facing the acceptance of frequency healing by mainstream science and medicine, is the lack of rigorous, formal study conducted with appropriate parallels as are used in pharmaceutical trials. Going hand-in-hand with this, is the obvious bias towards alternative medicine. To many scientists, researchers, and medical practitioners, if it isn’t surgical or chemical, it’s not worth considering. The mainstream thought process is only serving to wash away innovation. To combat this, we would be best served to bridge the gap by refined research, double-blind studies, and other metrics that can show scientifically that there is substance to the claims that frequency is a viable method of treatment.

xxxWith that rant over, we can return to where we were. The fight with the mainstream aside, there have been some serious efforts put into frequency healing in past times. Perhaps one of the most notable researchers was named Dr. Royal Raymond Rife [image right]. In the early twentieth century, Dr. Rife developed the “Rife Machine” which was meant to utilize specific frequencies to eliminate various pathogens inside the human body.[4] Unlike other methodologies, Dr. Rife was trying to scientifically target specific issues with electromagnetic waves, believing that each issue had a specific frequency at which it could be resolved. In a sense, he was seeking to utilize frequency as a vaccine for each ailment.

xxxThe other leading example of healing frequency are the popular Solfeggio Frequencies. Ranging from 174 Hz to 963 Hz, these tones are rooted in world music and chant from ancient times.[5] Less targeted or scientifically approached than Rife’s work, these harmonic tones are not only meant to heal, but provoke an overall mental and spiritual well-being. Additionally, unlike the frequencies explored by Rife, the Solfeggio Frequencies do not require a machine, but are utilized through a kind of sonic immersion, mixed with meditation and other practices.[6]

xxxWhile different, each of these methods can offer benefits that make them worth exploring. Imagine being able to heal any of a number of problems without harsh pharmaceuticals or dangerously invasive surgeries. The key to the future is, as in many instances, hiding in the past. In the words of Nikola Tesla: “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.” Given the stringent efforts of dedicated scientists, I, for one, am confident that by harnessing this power, we could make strides into realms previously resigned to dreams of fiction. By expanding our concepts as to what is possible, we could harness the power to heal with hertz.
