For the last twenty years, thousands of people all over the world have used EFT tapping to experience breakthroughs in their spiritual life, mental wellbeing and physical health, yet it’s only just starting to find its way into the mainstream. That’s what I’m excited about, as it’s uniquely positioned to revolutionize the way we look at healing.
There’s a simple reason for this: drawing on Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern Western psychotherapy, the principles of EFT are at once both ancient and modern, and appeal to people who seek out alternative, holistic healing modalities, as well as those who tend to stick with traditional medical doctors or clinical therapists. It’s an effective method of healing that everyone can feel comfortable utilizing.
The basic premise behind the technique is this: we’ve come to understand that misguided beliefs, past trauma and troubling emotions all manifest as stress, which can have a significant impact on our health and even lies at the root of many of the ailments and problems we face. By minimizing or even eliminating this stress we can restore our minds and bodies to their optimal, settled states and true healing can begin.
EFT – which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques – addresses this stress through 9 of the body’s meridian points. These are the same parts of your body that are manipulated in acupuncture therapy with needles. In EFT, we literally tap on these points with our fingers while we focus on our current emotional state. Doing so allows us to ‘release’ our stress and negative feelings and replace it all with a positive, peaceful state that helps us move forward in our lives.
It’s the easiest way I know of to get past that nagging obstacle in your life, that one “thing” that’s been blocking your path.
Of course, you might be tempted to overlook this deceptively simple technique. After all, how could tapping on various parts of your body and talking about your feelings have any effect on your personal problems or health?
Modern science is now backing up what thousands of “tappers” around the world have known for years: EFT can be positively life changing. According to a study done at Harvard Medical School, manipulating the body’s meridian points, either through needles or slight pressure – as in acupressure or tapping – reduces the body’s levels of cortisol, commonly known as the stress hormone. Heightened cortisol levels have been linked to obesity, high blood pressure and even strokes.
Another landmark study done by Dr. Dawson Church revealed incredible effects of EFT tapping on veterans suffering with PTSD. In this study, one group of veterans received EFT coaching and traditional talk therapy while another received talk therapy alone. By the end of the study, only 4% of those who received talk therapy alone experienced any reduction of their symptoms, whereas 90% of those who were exposed to tapping no longer exhibited any symptoms of the disorder!
As exciting as this all is, what really makes EFT so wondrous is how very easy it is. You don’t need any special training or tools to tap, and you can learn the technique in 10 minutes flat. After that, all you need is your emotions. It’s why this technique is increasingly being used to heal people who’ve endured the most extreme kinds of trauma, be they refugees from war and genocide in Rwanda, or victims who endured the worst school shooting in America’s history, right here in my hometown, Newtown, Connecticut.
Simply put, EFT tapping gives you the power to radically improve your life, no matter how big or small your problem may be. Furthermore, it can empower just about anyone else to do the same. This being the case, I truly believe we’ve only just begun to see how much this simple technique can change the world.
