The Nature of the Soul in Ancient Egypt by Anna Cookson

The inspiration for Anna Cookson’s first novel, “The Sound of Your Soul”, took her on a magical journey as she tried to ascertain the nature of soul – to conjure what it would look like, how it would behave, and what it would do.

Beginning with the Ancient Egyptian understanding of the soul as made up of three parts, the Ka (bodily desires), the Akh (mind and intellect) and the Ba (the soul as we tend to understand it in modern terms), Anna soon discovered that people the world over have thought of the soul as something which could be wrought free from the body – something tangible in essence, something that can even be stolen.

Anna discusses the research behind her book and the character and essence of the soul, using Ancient Egyptian understandings as a basis before looking at the wider concept of the soul.
