[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e now come to the height of summer, and as the cardinal cross wanes there is a distinct air of re-examination for all of us. This is a time of celebration for many and for allowing our more playful aspirations to become a bigger part of our everyday lives. The question remains, what is the cost to our communities of the constant need for mental stimulation through technology? In July it is the last stage of Mars being in the sign of Libra, a combination that has seen many become agitated by the slightest remark. This has also set off Uranus in Aries, making most of 2014 trying for many people in terms of when to be confident and when to be diplomatic. This astrological signature has been a difficult one to balance and on July the 26th Mars travels into Scorpio, its traditional ruler, therefore an easier planetary combination for us all.

JUNE 2014 Venus, the planet of love and beauty, is in its own sign of Taurus until the 24th and with the Sun in Gemini some interesting cultural changes in art and music are stepping forward. Neptune turning retrograde on the 10th combining with a grand water trine at the start of the month is idealistic and maybe a little naïve at times, but highly effective in bringing people together for a Utopian vision. On the 11th Mars makes its final opposition to Uranus on the axis of Aries and Libra, a politically unstable time, when words will have to be carefully exchanged between political leaders. This is a time of great internal change for us all: technology is pushing us all into a new world order, and it is our responsibility to make sure we are aware of the good bits but also the negative implications. The Full Strawberry Moon on the 13th at 22 degrees Sagittarius is in the degree of ‘strife’, a noted signal of the coming months in terms of our need to create a different social culture in our world.

JULY 2014 Mars moves into Scorpio this month joining the planet Saturn; this is all about power and control and people in authority telling us how to behave. Revolution might well be in the air, but it might be a smart move to formulate your ideas before you go charging in. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, ingresses into the zodiac sign of Leo where it will spend the next year; for Leos and Aquarians the great benefactor is looking after you, and more news is to come from the British Royal Family in terms of public announcements. Mercury is in its own sign of Gemini until the 13th when it enters into Cancer, causing difficulties with the housing market in England and the USA. The Full Moon on the 12th is at 20 degrees in Capricorn, the symbol for which is ‘an ape seated before a mirror’.* It is the degree of imitation and is symbolically a gesture towards evolution, but we all must be mindful of who we are copying, especially in the work area and in our individual ambitions. The Sun is in the cardinal sign of Cancer; it clashes with Pluto on the 4th and squares Uranus on the 8th, a difficult energy to work with when we only have our instincts to see us through rather than the traditional way of doing things.

AUGUST 2014 The outer planets of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are all retrograde this month, so it could be a period when old issues from the last four years come back to haunt us. The outer planets are external in influence and are generational, therefore they play out in the development of our society and culture. Mars is fully embraced in Scorpio which deepens our awareness of the human need to come into conflict with each other from an animalistic urge for survival. Our basic needs are under the microscope this month with a strong awareness that we all need to express our inner creativity and release fears that are fuelled by false advertising and political propaganda. The Full Moon on the 10th is at 18 degrees Aquarius, the degree of isolation with the symbol ‘an old woman seated on a stool with a hooded cloak wrapped closely round her’.* This is an important lesson to learn. Our society is becoming more individual in temperament and our communities are being scattered and fragmented; at a time when environmental factors are becoming more challenging, the motto will be we need each other.
